Virtus / Safe Environment

 

The Diocese of Las Cruces will no longer be hosting live training sessions for Safe Environment.  All training will be conducted via the Virtus website.  All volunteers must create an account online at www.virtus.org.   To set up an account, you must do the following:

 

  • Go to www.virtus.org

  • Click on First-time registrant.

  • Click on Begin the registration process.

  • Select your organization>Las Cruces (Diocese)>Select

  • Create a user ID and Password>Continue

  • Enter First, Middle, Last Name>email.  NOTE: if no email, click on No email>click OK

  • Enter Home address, daytime phone, evening phone, date of birth>Continue.

  • Select primary location from list (where you actually do your ministry)>Continue.

    • NOTE: You may enter additional locations where your ministry is done. 

  • Select a role>type the title or ministry of what you do in the box>Continue.

  • Read the Code of Conduct>Enter name>Enter date>click box.

  • Read the Disclosure and Authorization>click box.

  • Read the Summary of Rights>click box>Enter name>Enter date>Continue.

    • NOTE: The Diocese of Las Cruces does not conduct credit reports.  This is an umbrella term by the Federal Government that cannot be changed.  Our Diocese does not have authorization to conduct credit checks, only criminal background checks.

  • Have you already attended…>select No>OK

  • Select PGC Online Mistreatment Awareness Session 3.2 or 3.2 (Spanish)>Select

  • The next screen will lead you into the AmericanChecked site to submit your background check.

  • Enter the required information in red.  No extra spaces after names.  If you do not have a middle name, enter None>email address is not required>Next.

    • NOTE: There is no cost to you for the background check.

    • NOTE: Background checks must be done via this process even if you have had one done through another organization (i.e. public schools).

  • You will submit on the following screen.

  • Once you have completed the training and background check, please notify the office so that your file can be created/updated.

  • Remember that you must redo your training and background check every 5 years to remain in compliance with Diocesan policy.
