St. Francis Associates
We try to imitate St. Francis of Assissi, our patron saint, and attempt to take care of any needs that arise in a person's life that they can't handle themselves. This group of volunteers consists of two groups: one to distribute food from the food pantry and the other to help with utilities, rent, gas cards, and prescriptions. This ministry does not discriminate against any race, religion, sexual orientation, handicap or any other human condition in regards to our clients or members.
This ministry relies solely on donations to meet the needs of our community. Food (parishable and non-parishable), household and personal items are always in great demand but we always try to list items that we are in extra need of in each week's bulletin.
Monetary donations are also needed so that we can purchase additional items when the need arises. We are also able to purchase food from the Roadrunner Food Bank in Las Cruces at deeply discounted rates.
The Associates have moved next door. Enter through the south side at the top of the wooden ramp and through the gate. NOTE: They do not have regular office hours and will only be here on the scheduled days of distribution. Call 388-4933 for more info.
Food Pantry
This group distributes food from the food pantry to those in the community in need of groceries and other household items. They are able to give non-perishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, beans, and rice. They also have staples such as flour and sugar, and always have bread donated by local grocery stores. Household items such as detergent, shampoo, soap, and feminie hygiene products are given if and when available. NOTE: Families can only receive food boxes once a month.
Food baskets are available at Thanksgiving, during which time they coordinate with other churches and organizations to try and reach as many families as possible during this time.
DISTRIBUTION: Every Monday at 4:00 p.m.
Utilities, Rent, etc.
Some of the expenses they help with include utilities, rent, medicine and doctor bills, emergency overnight housing at a local motel, gasoline, and even occasional items like a tent. The ministry works closely with Heat NM and the Good Neighbor fund to provide payments for these families. They also use a voucher system with local vendors for medicine, gasoline, and propane since the amounts can vary and they don't have bills until after the delivery.
Families need to bring: a photo I.D., a copy of the bill they are needing help with, a second bill with the same address, proof of income for every adult in the home, identification such as a birth certificate or insurance card for every child in the home, and a copy of their application for LIHEAP through the Income Support office.
ASSISTANCE GIVEN: Every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
